X1/9 1979 |
||
My name is Ricardo Borja I live on Orange County South California USA, X1/9 enthusiast since I came to live to US in late 96' My X1/9 was my first car I bought here and I got as a hobby, spend my free time to try to fix and enjoy the ride. Finally after 12 years my X1/9 still at home. When I was teenager, I walked on the street nearest to my home on Mexico City, on the gas station I saw a very interesting car, much different than all, it was a TOYOTA MR2, Toyota didn't launch on my country on those years, so it was very interesting to see this car, looks like a ferrari I thought! Same life brought me to live to USA, someday I walked on the street and a neighbour put on sale an almost junk car, the badge said FIAT, I knew some about this cars but I didn't see this model before, this car was very damage but the style, the design, lines and shape tied me! I bought for $400.00 USD. After that I start to read and learn more about my car, his History amazed me! now I knew this toyota MR2 I saw when I was a teenager, it just an other copy from my X1/9 like many others. On resume, I bought this X1/9 on late 96’ I was wonder to have some car to spend my free time and enjoyed, nothing special some cheap and easy to fix, if the car broken just tossed and gets an other one. I'm not a professional just an other enthusiast who wants to enjoy the ride on your own rebuilded car. I Never thought to buy a generic Asian cars (YOU WONT GET A COPY). I always believe on some German or British car, but when I saw this X1/9 his lines tie me! PURE ITALIAN DESIGN! My X1/9 is a 1979 carburated and 5speed when I got it was almost a junk yard car, with a lot of loose parts, electrical problems, heating, noisy gearbox and tons of garbage, dust in and outside, but the engine was sound smooth and runs great, maybe I mess, but this car where my first car am I bought in this country and I was looking something to spend my free time, fix it and enjoy the ride. |

Some day the gearbox was broken, and I thought to toss it or fix it? After all everything on the car works good and the engine still strong, I found one on the junkyard from a late X1/9 model, swap the gearbox and that’s it! After that I decided to restore the car, make a good job, I’m not a professional but I tried to do my best, on July 2000 the car was sent to paint on IMOLA YELLOW PPG paint job, since then I start the restoration. |

My X1/9 on "normal" conditions, a nice set of Cromodoras Iron Cross and 175/70/13 and 185/70/13 tires front and rear. It was a very "eye catching" I restored and keep on this conditions since July 2000 to November 2005 After 5 years I decided to change "the face" again! here some pictures on those glory days. |
